Desperation Politics Part II: GOP Smears of O’Donnell in Delaware Senate Primary

1:29 am in 2010 Elections, Current Events, GOP Politics by qstarweb

COMMENTARY
By Dean Chambers

As primary day gets closer the desperate politician seems to dig deeper in the bag of tricks to smear the rival candidate. I illustrated this some days ago with the pathetic losing campaign liberal Bill Binnie is running against Kelly Ayotte in New Hampshire’s US Senate primary. But liberal Bill Binnie is on his own because the party leadership has the good sense to stay out of that little political food fight. The Delaware primary to fill the seat vacated by Joe Biden is a different story. Christine O’Donnell is a better conservative candidate than Ayotte, and her primary competitor Mike Castle is far more a liberal Republican-In-Name-Only (RINO) than liberal Bill Binnie. Yet the party leadership, nationally and in Delaware, has stepped in to support the RINO over the conservative candidate. As usual, they claim the RINO is more electable. And they’re more than willing to play sleazy, dirty, from the absolute bottom of the barrel politics on behalf of their RINO candidate. Despite claiming they have a lead in the polls, it looks like Mikey Castle is afraid of Christine O’Donnell and thinks he has to attack her to win the primary.

Those of us who follow politics know how kind of operation works. They hire investigators to look into absolutely everything they can find about someone. Lots of illegal obtained information is always found such as a variety of legally confidential records and copies of a candidate credit bureau reports. People are talked to off the record, giving old friends and enemies alike a chance to spread their dirt. No matter how clean you think you are, if you become a candidate they will find out stuff about you that even YOU didn’t know about. Political operatives can take the smallest of issues and trump them up in tabloid form in such a way that you can be made to look like the most unethical and rotten candidate for office on this side of Rod Blagojevich.

An ambulance-chasing lawyer registered the domain from O’Donnell’s 2008 campaign (christineodonnell08.com) to make fun of her. On the site he refers to her as a “stinky poop” that has “bad hair days.” Wow, that’s the most this cretin can come up with? I doubt he has any connections to Castle and the GOP leadership. Then again, how can I be so sure?

Little Mikey Castle’s campaign has stood up the smear web site realchristine.com, on the front page of which appears (coincidence, of course) the same not-so-flattering black-and-white picture of O’Donnell that appears on the dark mirror site registered at christineodonnell08.com by the ambulance-chasing lawyer. The realchristine.com is a very slick web site paid for officially by the Castle campaign, that is reportedly going to use the same smear content in some 30 second television advertisements against O’Donnell. At the bottom of the site in smallest size typeface supported by my web browser, is the disclaimer “Paid for by the Castle Campaign Fund, Carl Hostetter, Treasurer.” They hope you won’t notice that when you visit the site. The domain realchristine.com is registered to Republican activist Patrick Ruffini, who is reportedly working for Castle.

So what are the smears? The most prominent is an accusation O’Donnell pays half her rent out of campaign funds. Actually, she has rented a townhouse that has doubled as campaign office and a place for some staff to stay. And yes the half that is actually used as the campaign office is paid out of campaign funds. EVERY organized political campaign uses campaign funds to pay for an office. Nothing unusual there. Sorry Mikey that mud doesn’t stick.

The smear site alleges O’Donnell still owes $4823 to her alma mater, Farleigh Dickinson University, for tuition charges. O’Donnell has stated this bill is paid and the university issued her degree. So, Mikey Castle, that’s not an issue either. This is more mud that doesn’t stick.

The Castle smear site says O’Donnell has some old campaign debts and back taxes she hasn’t paid yet. A reality check is in order here for little Mikey Castle. He was born into wealth and privilege and has never had to do a real day’s work ever in his life to get buy. He’s never worried about how he would pay his own rent or make enough money to eat because he was born into wealth, made a good living as an attorney and then went in politics. Wealthy RINOs like Mikey Castle don’t understand how this recession affects most of us because this little trust fund baby is insulated from the effects of a recession like most wealthy RINOs and trust fund baby liberals. Little Mikey Castle and his hired smear artists just don’t get it.

That is all there is to the charges, trumped up in tabloid style to look serious on the smear web site. Castle’s dirt operatives no doubt searched far and wide and dug deep and that is ALL they could find on Christine O’Donnell. It’s hardly anything compared to the baggage carried by most politicians. Most Democrats and many Republicans currently serving in Congress carry far worse baggage than that. That’s not to excuse any of the baggage but clearly no candidate for public office is perfect. I’m not going to dig up and splash all over here Mikey Castle’s baggage just because his campaign is doing this to O’Donnell. But I’m sure if I did I could easily stand up a “know the real Mike Castle” web site with more convincing dirt than what his campaign put out.

The bottom line is, this is smear politics by a desperate candidate who expected this nomination to be his for the asking like everything else he’s taken for granted he gets as a child of wealth and privilege. Christine O’Donnell is a solid conservative Republican who will vote on principle not politics and represent the people of Delaware rather than the politicians, bureaucrats, and special interest groups that Mike Castle works for. I hope the primary voters in a week or so from now will be smart enough to ignore the smear campaign and vote for a candidate who will work for them in the US Senate. With this episode, the RINO Mike Castle deserves to be retired in this primary. Let’s hope it happens.

Pure Insanity of the Looney Left

11:21 am in Current Events, Democrats, Liberal Progressive Policies by qstarweb

COMMENTARY
By Dean Chambers

Evan Sayet, a comedian and former writer for the leftist Bill Maher, is a former liberal who now calls himself a “9-13 Republican.” Sayet realized just how wrong and anti-American the far left is while observing their behavior after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. After some intense thinking about how leftist liberals hate everything that is right, he realized that is why they are wrong not just many or most issues but EVERY issue. I think he’s absolutely right. A look at just a few of the current example of leftist liberalism in the news really does show Evan Sayet is right.

Look at the issue over building that Ground Zero mosque in New York City. This character that wants to build it is worth $224 million just THREE hears after working as a waiter in a restaurant. No one on the hard left wonders where he found that money so fast yet Nancy Pelosi wants to investigate the organized opposition to see where they get their funding from. The hard left, including President Obama and wacky leftist NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg are all for the mosque while a vast majority of the American citizens are against. How can the left be more wrong than that?

In Montana, the “secular progressives” in the education bureaucracy are pushing a sex education policy that will start teaching explicit information about sex to children in government schools start at age FIVE in kindergarten. The government school officials in Provincetown, Mass., a haven for homosexuals, also are trying to start their sex education teaching in kindergarten. What could possibly be the reason for that, other than it’s just simply wrong? What the parents teach their children is likely to be right, so the best way to undermine that is to teach them explicit sex “education” as soon as they arrive in the government schools. Next, the left will mandate this “curriculum” be part of Head Start too.

President Obama himself, the other night in that Ovul Office speech he gave, blamed the war in Iraq over the last 8 years for causing the recession. What planet is he living on? The so-called stimulus bill, that has created almost ZERO jobs, and was signed by Obama cost the taxpayers far more than the entire series of operations in Iraq. For something that supposedly cause so much economic decline, the cost of the war in Iraq that last two years has merely been a thin slice of the GIGANTIC budget deficits Obama has racked up. Obama and the liberal Democrats couldn’t be more wrong on these issues.

President Obama appointed a character named Kevin Jennings as the “Safe Schools Czar,” I’m not making this up. But what most don’t realize, not only is Jennings an extremist but he is probably almost the LAST person you would want near your children in any schools let alone be appointed by the president as a “safe schools czar.” Jennings heads up an organization called “Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network (GLSEN),” which promotes the creation of “gay and straight clubs” for students in government-run schools that are nothing more than a guise for blatant homosexual recruiting. Jennings also praised a guy named Harry Hay, who defended the North American Man/Boy Love Association (NAMBLA), a pro-pedophile group. Jennings authored a forward to a book titled “Queering Elementary Education.” Obama’s friend William Ayers also endorsed that book. Jennings’ group GLSEN recommends sexual explicit books for children and pro-homosexual teachings in the government-run schools. GLSEN enjoys sponsorship from the National Education Association (NEA) and corporate sponsorship from KPMG, CitiCorp, IBM, PepsiCo. Cisco and Goldman Sachs according to their web site. Jennings has also been a member of the radical anti-Christian hate group called Act Up (AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power). Can Obama have been any more wrong to appoint someone like Jennings to that position?

Then there is Congressman Alan Grayson from Florida, a far-left rhetorical bomb-thrower. This is the buffoon who stood on the floor of Congress and said the Republican health care plan is “don’t get sick and die quickly.” He’s on twitter regularly lambasting Republicans all as right wingers and nutjobs, ironically. Yet Grayson has a 32 percent approval rating from voters in his own district and appears assured of defeat in November. He votes almost every issue in lock step with Nancy Pelosi. He can’t be any more wrong, yet he’s a hero of the moonbat left.

Remember how the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) was exposed for its willingness to help support aspiring organizers of a teenage prostitution ring via it’s ACORN affordable housing efforts. They had no concern about the nature of the “business” that was proposed or the admission that underage children would be hired to provide such “services.” In response to this, the hard left goes after the two investigative journalists who exposed this scandal. How wrong could ACORN and their leftist defenders be?

Look at where the hard left stands on illegal immigration? Firmly with the Illegal Aliens, wanting to give them amnesty, in-state tuition rates at state colleges and universities, social security, and welfare benefits. Obama’s radical Justice Department has filed at least two lawsuits against Arizona for enforcing immigration laws, as is the job of a state government in exercising its interest in protecting its public from criminal illegal aliens. Failure to defend our border is not only a basic safety risk for our citizens, it’s a national security risk given the possibility of the smuggling of a dirty bomb or a suitcase nuclear weapon that could cause untold disaster in one of our cities. Could they be any more anti-American and wrong on these issues?

I could go on and on and turn this commentary into an entire book with all the examples of pure insanity from the looney left. What is clear, if nothing else, is just how wrong the hard left is and how wrong they truly are on every single issue. It’s not good enough to be a “cafeteria conservative” and oppose the left on some of the issues and not others. Standing up for freedom, America, and what’s right require opposing the hard left on EVERY issue because they hate what’s right and take the wrong side on every issue.

Hostage taker at Discovery Channel building Inspired by Far Left Earth Agenda

1:03 am in Current Events, Liberal Progressive Policies by qstarweb

COMMENTARY
By Dean Chambers

James Jay Lee, who has a history of protesting against the Discovery Channel, reportedly entered their headquarters in Silver Spring, Md. armed with a strap on bomb and at least one handgun. This lead to him taking three hostages and a standoff that ended when police shot Lee in order to protect the endangered hostages. While Lee’s actions were in no way caused by any political ideology or agenda, they clearly were inspired by his extremist views on environmental issues.

Former Vice President Al Gore’s global warming documentary “An Inconvenient Truth” and “Ishmael,” a novel by environmentalist Daniel Quinn, influenced his views. Lee wanted the Discovery Channel to air more extremist environmental programming to his liking and alleged the programs run on the channel were “about more PRODUCTS to make MONEY, not about actual solutions,” according to a web site owned by Lee. On that site, Lee also stated “All programs on Discovery Health-TLC must stop encouraging the birth of any more parasitic human infants and the false heroics behind those actions. In those programs’ places, programs encouraging human sterilization and infertility must be pushed. All former pro-birth programs must now push in the direction of stopping human birth, not encouraging it.”

What Lee espouses is clearly the logical conclusion of the extremist environmental movement; at its heart it is patently against human life. While many who are followers of this agenda might not themselves view humans as parasites on the earth or be anti-human life to this degree, by advocating and supporting the extremist environmental agenda they too are support this ultimate direction and goal of the extreme environmental movement. There is not doubt the environmentalist hard left is against human life. This is why they are so consistently in favor of euthanasia of humans and abortion as well. This is why they have absolutely no problem sacrificing individual rights and economic prosperity in the name of “saving the planet” from human beings.

While Lee engaged in the behavior of a sociopath in his advancement of this agenda, his desperation to “save the earth” and the use of fear are not much different intellectually than that used by other who support this same agenda. Lee carried out the threat himself, using a gun to take hostages and demanding his environmental agenda as the desired result of his violent actions. Those who non-violently pursue this agenda do not threaten us with a gun or take hostage, but they engage in desperation arguments and hold up the threat of death by alleged human destruction of the planet as reason we should support their agenda. Leftists who agree with the content of Lee’s views will say we don’t have time to debate, discuss, and deliberate over alleged global warming, that we must act now, and do what they want to be done (taxes, regulations, cap and trade, and other economically destructive legislation) or otherwise we won’t have time to fix the problem later on and we’ll be doomed. Since we don’t have time to waste, enact their extremist agenda, even if it destroys our economy and way of life, and it ultimately MIGHT save the planet. So they say. This convenient non-sequitur argument attempts to take us intellectually hostage because it says we either do what they want or the earth will burn.

What James Jay Lee did, and let’s be clear, is far more wrong than the behavior of those making the fallacious argument above. But his actions have brought attention to the agenda that inspired the behavior of a sociopath, and highlighted desperation of both his actions and the arguments made by those who inspired his rage. Intelligent citizens won’t be persuaded to change public policy by the rage of a sociopath with a gun, a rogue government with guns, or leftist extremist alarmists telling us we need to destroy the economy to save the planet. We can have clean air and water, economically viable renewable energy sources and a clean earth without devolving our economy to the Stone Age.

Coming Republican landslide is simply a rejection of Obama’s Radical Socialism

6:48 pm in 2010 Elections, Current Events, Democrats, GOP Politics by qstarweb

COMMENTARY
By Dean Chambers

The Reverend Jesse Jackson ran for president two times, in 1984 against Gary Hart and Walter Mondale and against in 1988 when the Democrats nominated Michael Dukakis. The primary impediments to Jackson’s nomination were not his race or ethnicity but his extremist views on the issues and his complete lack of experience in elected public office. Jackson hadn’t been as much as mayor of a city or a state legislator, or a member of Congress, and was seeking the highest office in the land. Therefore, his candidacy was viewed by many as a joke, including comedian Eddie Murphy who had a comedy routine around the notion of voters electing Jackson as president while under the influence of intoxicating liquors. Some of us still wonder what 53 percent of the voters were drinking, or smoking, when they elected Barack Obama in 2008.

But for conservatives, the notion of Jesse Jackson as the Democrat nominee for president was not a joke it all, it was a DREAM. Many of us thought, with his extreme views on the issues and his lack of experience, that if the Democrats nominated Jackson, we would win such a huge landslide as the public rejected the Democrats from top to bottom, we’d control Congress and most of the state legislatures. But when the Democrats nominated Obama two years ago, I suspect most of us realized this was not like the Democrats putting up Jesse Jackson. Obama was different, the media seemed to build up his credibility in a way that made him appears to have a lot more “gravitas” as a candidate than Jesse Jackson in 1984. Who could believe that a mere 4 years as an Illinois State Senator and just a couple years in the United States Senate could buy Obama so much “gravitas,” but it did?

Barack Obama also had something far in excess of Jesse Jackson: his views were FAR more radically to the hard left than those of the Reverend Jackson, and Obama had connections to extremists like Jeremiah Wright, William Ayers, and Van Jones to prove it. But it was largely only conservatives like Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh that would highlight those connections while the mainstream media was all but actively campaigning for Obama presenting him as the “moderate” but electable African-American candidate for president. Remember Joe Biden called him “clean” and Harry Reid said he was electable because he was a “lighter” skinned African-American who didn’t have an ethnic accent. But I think Biden and Reid were wrong about their racially tinged comments. If Barack Obama was as dark skinned as Justice Clarence Thomas he still would have been elected president. Riding a wave of unhappiness with President Bush and desire for undefined “change,” Obama was swept into office also in part due to the buzz of making history by electing the first African-American president.

For those who us who knew how RACIDAL Obama’s views were, and believed that he would govern by those views rather than follow the second term Clinton model and govern moderately, we knew precisely what would happen under the Obama presidency. I told people the night of the election, Obama would govern from the hard left and the public would reject that agenda and 2010 would shape up a larger Republican sweep than 1994. My prediction was correct only in the direction I saw Obama pursuing but way off on the degree of his pursuit of that direction.

President Obama’s agenda proved to be orders of magnitude more radical than I had predicted, or that his background, associations, and voting record as senator in Springfield, Illinois and Washington, DC indicated. Only Alan Keyes, who ran against Obama for Senate in 2004, got it right when he described Obama as “a radical communist.” While a more experienced politician of either party would pursue change incrementally, inexperience and politically radical Obama sought to fundamentally transform the United States into European-style socialism overnight.

The same Obama who criticized the last deficit (that he voted for as Senator) of more than $400 billion enacted by the Democrat Congress that he blamed on President Bush. Then Obama helped the Democrat Congress under his leadership as president rack up a deficit of more than $1.6 trillion or $1600 billion the next year. Next the Obama team in Congress, under the leadership of Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi, passed takeover after takeover. First the takeover of health care via ObamaCare was passed by buying just enough votes to get it through the senate and then the ugly spectacle of abusing the “reconciliation” process designed for passing tax and budget bills to ultimately make it happen. Bank bailouts, takeover of GM and Chrysler, and the rest of the Obamanomics agenda was passed or promoted. Pelosi pushed cap and trade through the house but it has yet to see passage in the Senate. Obama appointed dozens of extremely radical, and publicly unaccountable, “czars” to run a variety of areas of public policy free of much scrutiny from Congress. The Obama team attacked every area of public policy, leaving nothing unaffected by his drive for radical transformation of the country as soon as possible. He nominated a slate of candidate for federal judgeships that were more radical than any nominated before. His choices of Sonya Sodormayor and Elena Kagan proved to be the most extremist progressive nominees ever put on the Supreme Court.

Despite doing all of that, he had opportunities to, seeming almost deliberate in doing so, offend the American people at every turn. Recently he stuck his nose into the ground zero mosque controversy in New York City to support it then flip flop after seeing he was on the unpopular side of the issue. Then he got involved in a local issue when he said the Cambridge, Mass. Police had “acted stupidly” in arresting a Harvard professor for being rude to the cops. Never mind the fact that any of us would have been arrested, and rightly so, for doing what the professor did. Then this was followed by the absurd “beer summit” at the White House with the professor, the Cambridge city cop, Joe Biden, and President Obama himself. Obama would also make several foreign trips and major speeches, and would apologize for the United States and make anti-American comments at each stop. The public could clearly see the one who “acted stupidly” is President Obama himself.

Joe Biden was right, this is a “big bleeping deal.” Obama has clearly tried to change the country in every way to radical socialism and a hard majority of about 60 percent of the public has made it clear in all the major polls they absolutely refuse to tolerate this sudden shift to radical socialism. The U.S. truly is a right of center country and the polls show it. ObamaCare, cap and trade, the bailouts, the takeover of the domestic auto industry, and the gigantic “stimulus” spending bills only have about 30 percent support as opposed to 55-65 percent that oppose them and want them repealed or replaced with more conservative, fiscally responsible, and/or free market oriented legislation.

High unemployment figures, weekly new unemployment claims, and sluggish economic growth show the economy is tanking. There is no real recovery, despite what Barack Obama claims. A massive tax increase would surly plunge the economy deeper in recession. But that is surely what we are likely to get, because Obama and the Congressional leadership are pledging to let the Bush-era tax cut expire in early 2011. That inaction would raise taxes for almost all of us, across the board, and destroy more jobs. I think the public easily understands who will have “acted stupidly” if the politicians in Washington allow those tax cuts to expire.

The public remains unhappy with what the last Republican majority did in Congress but complete outraged and opposed to what President Obama and this Democrat majority in Congress has done. This year’s election will have a profound affect on the country for decades to come, possibly submitting the Democrat Party to long-term minority status if the voters have some memory and punish, long term, the party for this pursuit of radical socialism. It won’t even be close. Republicans will gain more than 50 seats in the Congress and 10 seats in the Senate. If the Republicans smart, they might be the majority part for a generation of beyond after this election. Otherwise, Republican failure after this chance the voters will give them, combined with voter dissatisfaction with both parties, could lead to one of the parties going the way of the Whigs.

Alaska GOP primary a test for party leadership

10:47 pm in 2010 Elections, Current Events, GOP Politics by qstarweb

With all but about 23,000 absentee ballots counted, challenged Joe Miller leads incumbent Senator Lisa Murkowski by about 1600 votes. While many are cover this primary battle as a feud between the Murkowski family and Sarah Palin because the latter endorsed Miller; the real issue here is how this is a test for the GOP leadership. Lisa Murkowski had appointed, by her dad who was governor, to fill a vacancy in the Senate. That appointment was controversial but voters held against her dad more than her, and re-elected her six year ago while her dad went on to lose re-election as governor in the primary to Sarah Palin. Murkowski turned out to be a Republican-In-Name-Only (RINO) as senator, voting “pro-choice” most times on abortion issues and compiling a moderate to liberal record on economic issues. During the primary, Miller hammered her on how often she voted with Harry Reid for Obama-backed legislation. Alaska is a generally more conservative Republican state that should find itself represented by solid conservatives when it votes in Republicans.

Miller leads by about 1600 votes with about 23,000 absentee ballots left to be counted. While it’s possible that lead may be erased after counting those ballots, it’s not very likely the percentage for each candidate among those 23,000 ballots will vary much from the rest of the primary ballots. It is very likely that Joe Miller defeated Lisa Murkowski to win this primary for US Senate.

News reports have the national Republican Party sending lawyers and consultants in to “help” the Alaska election officials count and the remaining ballots and tabulate the results. Miller is suspicious that the party leadership, that normally has supported and backed incumbents in contested primaries, is sending its people in to try to do for Murkowski what was done for Al Franken in Minnesota: turn an election night vote deficit into a win in the election. I think Miller has every reason to be skeptical.

While the party leadership pledges to not take sides in the dispute over the results, it remains to be seen if they will live up to that promise. If the party leadership appears to be involved or heavy-handed in this issue and miraculously, the state election officials announce Murkowski has somehow eked out a lead after the remaining ballots are counted, it will look quite suspect. In the meantime, the Democrats are reportedly attempting to put aside the candidate that won their primary to recruit former governor Tony Knowles to run for the seat. So if the GOP leadership blows this badly enough, the state of Alaska could find itself represented next year by TWO Democrat senators.

Real Lessons of Katrina: Progress Blocked by Environmental Extremists

12:32 pm in Current Events, Democrats, Liberal Progressive Policies by qstarweb

COMMENTARY
By Dean Chambers

Five years after the devastation of New Orleans by Hurricane Katrina, few know the real lessons that should be learned. No it’s not the often-told story about how President Bush neglected the situation and let the city go underwater. That another Big Lie invented by liberal Democrats to bash Republicans politically and sell the voters on electing pabulum puking liberal politicians that have no real agenda. In fact, President Bush was pro-active and offered to send in National Guard troops immediately. Liberal Democrat Lousiana Governor Kathleen Blanco denied the National Guard troops offer while liberal Democrat New Orleans mayor Ray Nagin sent citizens to the Superdome as he let hundreds of buses (that could have evacuated those citizens) get drowned in flood waters. The real truth is of Democrat politicians from New Orleans and Louisiana who were truly guilty of inaction and incompetent response. That’s not a partisan statement but an accurate one; Blanco and Nagin were totally inept. But even THAT still is not the REAL lesson to be learned from Katrina.

There is no end to the crazy ideas espoused by not just moonbats, but mainstream liberal Democrats about the failure of the levees in New Orleans. One bogus claim is, the Bush administration defunded the levee projects to spend the money on the Iraq war. That’s obviously ridiculous considering all the money spent by Bush and the liberal Democrat Congress. A more extreme lie is the claim that Bush or someone working for him deliberately sabotaged the levees. That only shows how extreme the left has become.

It needs to be remembered that many parts of the city of New Orleans are at or below sea level. That is why the system of levees was built to protect the city should a storm or hurricanes cause temporary rises in sea levels. In the 1970s a local environmental group called Save Our Wetlands filed suit in federal court to stop construction projects designed to bolster and improve the levee system. In 1977, the court ruled in their favor and shut down the levee improvement projects. That very lawsuit and the failure to complete the levee improvement construction since then lead directly to the devastation of the city in 2005 by Katrina. Despite that legacy, Save Our Wetlands continues to deny responsibility while continuing to promote its backward extremist environmental agenda.

If that lawsuit hadn’t stop the improvements of the levee system, the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina would have clearly been different if the levees were able to protect the city. It’s a scandal what that lawsuit ultimately did to New Orleans. I think the city and its residents should have filed class action against Save Our Wetlands and any other environmental extremists groups that supported the lawsuit, and they all should have been sued into bankruptcy and non-existence. In fact, any funds and assets owned by Save Our Wetlands should have been court-ordered to be paid to the city for recovery costs after Katrina. Extreme environmentalist groups should pay the costs incurred by their progress-stopping lawsuits and public policy agenda.

And if the lesson is learned, maybe the public will think twice about supporting and donating to a progress-stopping radical group like Save Our Wetlands. We should never again allow groups like that and their frivolous lawsuits to block progress. This lesson is especially important if part of our energy policy is to include building nuclear power plants, another element of progress blocked by extreme environmental groups in the past.

Desperate Politics: Liberal Bill Binnie’s negative campaign in New Hampshire

7:13 pm in 2010 Elections, Current Events, GOP Politics by qstarweb

COMMENTARY
By Dean Chambers

The conservative candidate in the Republican primary, State Attorney General Kelly Ayotte, has compiled a substantial lead in the weeks coming up to the September 14 primary. Her main challenger, extremely wealthy and liberal business Bill Binnie, who appears to be attempting to buy the seat with millions in advertising buys, is launching a desperate negative advertising campaign against Ayotte.

In his latest ad, in which he apparently paid some serious cash to get the narrator of the popular “Forensic Files” cable television show to be the voice, accuses Aye of being a handpicked political insider. But the advertisement is puff and fluff, with little or no evidence of what it alleges against Ayotte.

Ironically, the liberal Bill Binnie advertisement says Ayotte has been appointed to positions and never elected. Guess how many elected public offices liberal Bill Binnie has held? If you guessed zero you are correct. Certainly Kelly Ayotte’s offices have been appointed, which doesn’t disqualify her from serving as and excelling as a US Senator. Ayotte served as a prosecutor in the state Attorney General’s office, which is an appointed office. Then she was elevated to the State Attorney General’s office. That office, unlike in many states, is an appointed position in New Hampshire as it is at the national level. That fact in no way detracts from Ayotte’s experience, performance as attorney general or her qualifications to be a US Senator. But liberal Bill Binnie is desperate to mischaracterize Ayotte’s experience and record to bolster his sagging numbers in the polls.

Immigration has come into the campaign debate. While liberal Bill Binnie is against the Arizona SB 1070 immigration law, he has the audacity to accuse Kelly Ayotte of being “soft on immigration” in his negative television spot. And the same liberal Bill Binnie who raised money in New York for his campaign, accuses Ayotte of attending a fundraiser in Texas.

In the past, liberal Bill Binnie has said he would be open to a European style “Value Added Tax” as well as other tax increases. My guess is, he’s one of those economically ignorant RINOs that think you must increase taxes and create new taxes to pay down the national debt. He doesn’t understand supply side economic, the Laffer Curve, etc. and how lowering tax rates increases revenues. Not to mention that deficit spending can be eliminated by reducing spending. No good RINO would ever consider government spending less of our money.

Liberal Bill Binnie has donated money to the Democrats in the past. He gave $1000 to Democratic New Hampshire state Senator Martha Fuller Clark. He also donated $5000 to Ronald DiNicola (D-PA), and $1000 to Marty Meehan (D-MA). Who moderate let alone conservative Republican would give any money to a very liberal Congressman like Marty Meehan?

Lastly, liberal Bill Binnie is running on a claim that he knows how to create jobs. Well guess what? According to Wikipedia, when liberal Bill Binnie became CEO of Carlisle Plastics, he shipped hundreds of jobs to Mexico. The Wikipedia article about liberal Bill Binnie says, “According to The Children of NAFTA: Labor Wars on the U.S./Mexico Border by journalist and photographer David Bacon, a 2004 book which received a Gustavus Myers award, in 1989 a Carlisle Plastics factory named A&E Plastics in Santa Ana, California employing 450 workers was closed by Carlisle and operations were moved to Tijuana, Mexico, to a maquiladora named Plásticos BajaCal. The book implies that this was done partly in response to an attempt by the A&E Plastics employees to form a union.”

So much for a record of creating jobs by moving them to Mexico! Liberal Bill Binnie is a classic schmuck of a politician, one that will say anything himself and say anything about the opponent to get elected. And he’s spending tens of millions of his own money to do it. I have no issue with someone spending a lot of their own money to get their message out; but it should be an honest message that has some degree of integrity. But liberal Bill Binnie is just trashing a good candidate to advance his own failing candidacy.

They say the cream rises to the top. If that is true in politics, even when a liberal like Bill Binnie spends tens of millions to smear you in television ads, then Kelly Ayotte will have little to worry about on the way to victory in September’s primary. I hope the voters will be able to separate the good information from the ugly smears and vote for Ayotte.

Leftists want to protect you from Freedom

8:40 pm in Current Events, Liberal Progressive Policies by qstarweb

COMMENTARY
By Dean Chambers

There is no doubt the politically correct hard left is waging war, on many fronts, against so many of our personal freedoms. Freedom lets you make your own choices, good or bad, and you are responsible for the consequences of your decisions. The hard left doesn’t like that, because they truly believe they know better than you how to live your life and therefore should make those decisions for even if it means using the force of the government to do it.

Leftists will tell you they don’t want to restrict your freedom, they just want you to make smart choices, what THEY consider to be smart choices. But when given an example of how their allies restricted your choices, such as the banning of the use of trans-fats in foods cooked in restaurants in New York City, most leftists who “don’t want to restrict your freedom” will justify that on the grounds that trans-fats are poison and should be banned. How convenient, just declare it a “poison” and that justifies infringing on your personal choice. What’s next, will the leftist who already think our IDEAS are poison use that to justify banning them? Of course they already have sought that in ways, such as the speech codes on college and university campuses. Now if your health insurance company wants to offer you lower premiums for keeping your choesterol rate down, that’s a valid non-government solution. You have the choice to accept that or seek another health insurance company, and either way you have the choice either eat at a restaurant that uses trans-fats or seek one out that does not. That’s freedom; government enacted bans are not.

Another example is when leftists, for your safety of course, ask the state legislature to mandate your use of seat belts in your own car. Never mind that modern cars are quite well equipped with airbags surrounding you that protect you better than seat belts, or that in some accidents situations you’re safer if you hadn’t been wearing one; the issue for adults is still a matter of personal choice. Children should be required to have protection via child seats and seat belts, but adults can make their own informed choices. The state legislature, or Congress, has no business making personal choices for us. Insurance companies can offer a freedom market solution on this issue as well, such as offering to cut your deductible in half if you were wearing your seat belt during an accident.

Lately alleged environmental issues are the great excuse to regulate and infringe your personal freedom. Again, the leftists claim they just want you to make “smart choices” about these issues to help “save the planet” (as if we really can destroy it and it needs “saving” from us savage human beings) from the effects of our consumption of various consumer products. Those claimed effects are often dubious and generally based on junk science if any science at all. One of their claims is it takes so much more land and water resources to produce beef than says, heads of lettuce. Therefore we should be vegetarians and eat lettuce rather than beef. Today they say you SHOULD, tomorrow they’ll use the force of government to tell you that you must. But guess what? This is a “problem” already solved by the free market. The COSTS of the additional resources needed to raise beef are already built into the PRICE we pay. Beef is more expensive than lettuce. If I want to pay more of the money I EARN to eat beef rather than lettuce, I have that right. You hear that leftists? To paraphrase the great economist Dr. Walter E. Williams, I challenge any leftist who wants government regulation of my choices to come personally take this cheeseburger out of my hands to save the planet. I challenge them to personally stop you from driving your SUV. The list goes on and on. If they want the government to regulate your choices, a cowardly choice itself, I challenge them to personally abide by their preferences.

But you see that is the issue here. Leftists are spineless cowards that hide behind the force and authority of the government to make you do what they think you should do. They also hide behind the LIE that they just want you to make smart choices. That’s fine if you voluntarily agree and make such choices. But when you decide you want to make your choices, they’ll be more than ready to impose their choices on you by coercion.

And what to many leftists today, who want to ban the use of tobacco products, also want? They want to legalize marijuana. Where is the logic in that?

An Inspiring and Positive Substantive Agenda needed for a GOP Mandate

12:15 pm in 2010 Elections, Current Events, Democrats, GOP Politics by qstarweb

COMMENTARY
By Dean Chambers

If the Republicans not only want to win this fall but win the elections convincingly with a mandate for Real Change, a much-needed substantive change in the campaigns is absolutely necessary. In 1994 the Contract with America was just such a positive and inspiring agenda for Real Change; it was a substantive and concrete plan for action. It excited millions of voters and lead to GOP majorities in both houses of Congress for the first time in then 40 years.

This year, the voters are perhaps more cynical of politics and politicians than ever before in recent memory. Who can blame them. They were sold an extremely bad bill of goods by Obama in 2008, who campaigned as a moderate only to govern has a hard line leftist liberal. While many of us warned that is precisely what Obama was; many voters instead chose to believe he was something else because they so badly wanted him to be something. Now major “buyers remorse” has set in, and the only way to politically get their money back means voting for change in the next election. That election is this year and 2012 also.

While this creates a good political environment for Republicans, the polls are showing the cynicism is cutting against all politicians, making it that much more of a challenge for the party out of power. I’ve been looking at the polls and in particular the positive and negative rating of a number of candidates in this year elections among both the Republicans and Democrats. Negatives are up for incumbents and challengers alike. I was amazed that even some of the strongest Republicans, who lead in their races, have high negatives. I attribute a LOT of this to the generally high level of cynicism about politics and politicians that we are seeing this year. But I attribute much of it to another factor.

Many Republicans realize they can win this fall by simply being not the Democrats, and counting on the voters to elect GOP candidates by default because they are so frustrated with the current direction of the country they will “fire” the Democrats. This is how the Democrats simply ran against Bush rather than promote an agenda of their own in 2006 and 2008. It’s the safe strategy. It’s also a gutless and spineless strategy. That the Democrats opted for this approach is no surprise; in fact they are desperately hanging on to it this year by trying yet against to tie the current Republican candidates to George W. Bush. Seeing the GOP leadership willing to suffice with this cowardly strategy is profoundly disappointing. For those aware of it, this really does lend to the cynicism that the Republicans aren’t much better than are the Democrats. It also shows many of us that the party hasn’t learned its lessons; and the Republicans haven’t truly changed at all from that party that lost its reform ways and surrendered Congressional majorities to the Democrats. Are you listening, Michael Steele? And the RINOs who run the RNC offices in Washington DC that just don’t seem to get it?

While there are many who do get it, it is time for Republican leadership to wake up and make the needed changes in time for this year’s elections. Sitting back and letting the voters fire the Democrats is not a viable strategy for winning the future. It might seem like a safe route to electoral victory but it won’t give our new Congress a mandate on which to enact the Real Reforms needed to save the country from decline caused by Obama’s socialist policies.

Freedom is still exciting and inspiring. In this time of economic recession and record jobless rates, an agenda of rapid economic growth caused by huge tax cuts and limits on government spending is one whose time has come. We can build a growing free market economy that re-hires the unemployed and allows small business to prosper again if we reduce needless regulations, repeal ObamaCare and replace it with free market solutions, and make it clear cap and trade is permanently of the table never to be considered again. We need to communicate that we have positive solutions to real problems in addition to merely saying no to the radical agenda of the Obama secular-socialist machine. Former Speaker Newt Gingrich’s American Solutions does a great job of communicating a positive, conservative, substantive agenda for the future.

If we want to win with a mandate to turn this country around, our Republican candidates need to run this fall on a positive agenda for Real Change. If we don’t get it right this time, we may not have another chance, on the road to serfdom, to get it right again. The United States, the last best hope for freedom in an unfree world. Republicans need to clearly articulate and communicate a positive pro-freedom agenda and begin doing it now.

GOP2112 Endorsement: Dino Rossi for Senate in Washington State

10:49 am in 2010 Elections, Current Events, Democrats, Endorsed Candidates by qstarweb

Dino Rossi should be running for senator as the sitting second term governor of the state.

As a state senator and chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, Rossi was instrumental in passing the state budget and closing a $2.7 billion budget deficit without raising taxes. He was logically the right candidate for governor at the right time in 2004. He ran against the ultra-liberal state Attorney General Christine Gregoire. After a hard fought election, Rossi was certified governor-elect, winning by just 261 votes. But you know the Democrats (think Al Gore in Florida in 2000) will not miss an opportunity to steal a close election.

Gregoire requested recount after recount after recount until they found a way to count the votes in her favor. In King County was it revealed election officials used a “ballot-on-demand” printing machine to create ballots. Washington State was also sued for failing to mail out absentee ballots to military personnel from the state serving overseas. Eventually, after enough shenanigans that looked much like the Al Franken mess in Minnesota, Gregoire was deemed elected by a 133-vote margin. With plenty of good reason to suspect foul play, Republican leaders sued but the court upheld the Democrat stealing of the election. Very much like the 2008 Minnesota Coleman vs. Franken senate election, this election was blatantly stolen by the Democrats.

This year Rossi is the Republican nominee for US Senator, running against incumbent Senator Patty Murray. First elected in 1992, Murray was the spectacularly unqualified candidate running in an anti-incumbent year as a “mom in tennis shoes.” Murray has proven to be a reliably hard left liberal (and incompetent) senator.

Dino Rossi is a successful business owner who understands economics and knows limited government and lower taxes lead us to prosperity. Rossi is endorsed by the conscience of the nation, the great Senator Jim DeMint from South Carolina. Scott Brown is also endorsing Rossi. Please visit his web site and give your more generous donation, http://www.dinorossi.com/ and help him not be under-funded in a very close election this year.

The Senate is very much up for grabs this year. A gain of TEN seats would mean a 51 Republican majority. It’s very doable but we need to win every one of the winnable seats. That means making sure Rossi wins in Washington, Sharron Angle beats Harry Reid in Nevada, Marco Rubio on Florida, etc. Let’s make it happen and take back our country from Obama’s secular-socialist machine.
